LA SPINA TO PERFORM IN BRISBANE IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION FESTIVAL.
On Sunday August 8, Universal Music Australia and ABC Classics present an exclusive preview of the new album ‘Always You’ by brother and sister duo, LA SPINA.
Creating a new musical genre is a feat to which few musicians can lay a genuine claim. But when the talents of a pop diva were merged with one of Australia’s leading operatic tenors, a new category of ‘Orchestral/Pop’ was born and with it, an exciting one-of-a-kind musical act with a truly epic new album.
After forging successful musical careers independently over the past decade, Anna-Maria and Rosario La Spina have come together for their first album, ALWAYS YOU.
Written and co-arranged by Anna-Maria and produced with the help of a Hollywood-based film composer, this debut is an overwhelming sound of emotion with cinematic proportions.
Backed by the 65 piece Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the Savage Garden touring band, the two have melded their natural pop and operatic flairs to create a fresh sound, taking their ‘Orchestral/Pop’ genre to a whole new level.
Rosario and Anna-Maria La Spina will perform a special 30 minute concert at The Cascade Court Stage beside the Rosemount Wine Bar at QPAC, Southbank from 2.30pm on Sunday August 8. Their performance will conclude with a meet and greet where guests will have the opportunity to meet the artists. Admission is free.
Anna-Maria says, “We were looking at certain venues for the Brisbane launch and from the beginning we wanted it to be open to the public as well as for invited guests. The organisers of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival and QPAC were so supportive and worked our launch into their busy schedule which we really appreciate. It will be an entertaining afternoon that lends itself to its fashionable setting”.
The 2010 August 7 - 14 Fashion Festival will celebrate the arrival of the spring/summer collections with 10 group shows showcasing 38 local designers, 24 national designers and 24 international designers including Easton Pearson, Lisa Ho, Scanlan & Theodore and Pistols at Dawn to name just a few.
Despite a three-and-a-half year difference in age, the siblings, who were born and bred in a Sicilian-Australian household in the suburbs of Brisbane, have embarked on starkly different musical journeys. Anna-Maria went on to sing at Madison Square Garden and Hyde Park in the UK with Savage Garden and worked alongside superstars Meatloaf, Ozzy Osbourne and Slash, while Rosario who has been described by a former Opera Australia executive as “the Australian Pavarotti”, has appeared at that shrine of opera houses, La Scala in Milan, in the company of Plácido Domingo.
Rosario and Anna-Maria La Spina exude excitement and timeless elegance, both of which are reflected in their music. In a world of pre-fabricated artists and contrived tunes, their fusion on ‘Always You’ is set to stand out as much for its genuineness as for its unique sound.
