Camerata of St John’s – International Series 01 Guest artist: Sara Macliver

Saturday 17th March, 7.30pm
Conservatorium Theatre, QCGU, Southbank.

Camerata of St John’s premieres 200-year-old Italian gem on 151st Italian Anniversary

On March 17th, Camerata of St John’s (Camerata) will present its opening concert of the International Series at the Conservatorium Theatre, Southbank. This date also marks a very special point in Italy’s history.

On the day of the concert, Italy will celebrate its 151st anniversary of unification as a single state.

What is Camerata?

Camerata is a professional chamber orchestra, which, since 2005, has enriched Queensland’s cultural life with innovative musicianship of the highest quality.

It is the state’s chamber orchestra, comprising 18 talented string players, augmented as required, performing without a conductor and led by outstanding violinist, Brendan Joyce.

The orchestra presents a subscription series of six concerts and appears in collaboration with other professional groups and at festivals by invitation. In addition, the orchestra tours to regional centres in Queensland and New South Wales.

What we will do

Camerata will be featuring an Australian premiere performance of a work by Italian composer, Guisepe Valentini (a contemporary of Corelli), in honour of this occasion. In addition, Camerata will perform Brisbane composer, Robert Davidson’s work based on one of Valentini’s themes. This performance will be a world premiere.

Camerata would like to promote Italian culture by presenting Italian food and wine at its post-concert reception to be held in the Queensland Conservatorium foyer and by inviting members of the Italian community to include this performance as part of their anniversary celebrations.

What you could do

Camerata invites Italian Cultural Organisations to join in the celebration by supporting this event.

Ways to provide support include:

  • Provide financial support for the performance and/or the post-concert reception.
  • Promote this event to your networks – e-flyers are available for email promotion.

Camerata’s Business Development Manager, Alicia Dodemont, would be pleased to discuss how your organisation could be involved in this celebration.
